They are the ones who have stepped up into the breach, the ones with big shoulders (sorry ‘bout that Joyce) the new set of doers and some old ones too.  All ideas/comments are welcome, the more positive the better!

NEW/COMING EVENTS…..April 7th – The Children’s Easter Egg Hunt and activities. Details will be forthcoming soon, soon Rumor has it the big eared one might be sighted roaming the grounds but maybe he’s just checking on the hens – you know, a little quality control check on the fly or hop to be more exact. Anyway, if you happen to see a rather colorful individual in the bushes its either the bunny or one of our male members sporting their new spring ensembles- either way, they’re perfectly harmless, I think.

Then on April 17th we step back in time for a bit of OLDE COUNTRY ITALIAN with our Commodore donning an apron and invading the kitchen to produce mouth-watering Risotto Artichoke Salad, Lobster Ravioli with homemade Fresh Plum Tomato Sauce, Rustic Italian Sausage and Peppers with Italian Rolls and finally, Tiramisu to ensure we have to roll everyone home! Dear Lord, I’ve already gained weight just writing this!  Seating is limited for this evening to 60 so sign up PRONTO!!!

In the Future we might maybe even have May Day in May but you know how we go, May, June, its never good to rush it.  Personally I opt for renaming it the “MAYBE MAY DAY “ – has a certain je ne sais quoi, don’t you think?  Commencing in June, we will be having Saturday Summer Sunsets, which promise fun for the entire family and a great way for Saturday boaters to return and grab dinner at the Club.  If things go the way we anticipate, East Villa weekend revenues are sure to take a dip….after all, no one wants to cook after you’ve been out boating and this way you don’t even have to get dressed!

Memo to Self and Everyone Else……The electrical upgrade should be near completion in the next few weeks and then we’ll start on some pressing clubhouse maintenance issues….Landscaping activity will also begin immediately, so everyone’s cooperation is requested.  Patience, patience, patience is a virtue …..How many virtuous members do we have ??? That many, eh?  Oh well, we do ask you to bear with us – when all is said and done, the club will look better and more fully serve your needs, so have faith, it will be over soon!

Traditional Friday Night Buffet Dinner ..We wish to encourage everyone to attend the Friday night dinners whenever possible and help make these evenings a viable event.  While we are fully aware that everyone has a life and commitments outside of the club, we cannot continue to plan for and then cancel, these evenings.  Rest assured, we are doing our best to liven up the menus to make things more interesting and are open to any and all suggestions from members to achieve better participation.  So pleaseeeeeeeeeee, participate and partake of some fabulous food …and if you know of a better way to do it, we’re all ears!

It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing of David Kelly, Noelle Roberts and Suzanne Higgs.  Their loss is felt by our many members who knew and loved them and our prayers and condolences are with their families.

Sailing Update……Once again RNSC hosted an extremely successful Snipe Winter Championships March 18th through the 21st.  A huge thank you goes out to Franny DeCardenas for heading the Race Committee and his crew of Mark Dunkley, Adrian White, Lee McCoy, Thorson Rockwell, Helen Hudson and Marie Aaboe.  To our club members who cheerfully pitched it with appetizers for the Bacardi and Commodore’s Party, a heartfelt “Merci “! To Malcolm Mckay for hosting the Commodore’s Party, a very sincere thank you and a warning……we liked dat place lots, lots.  Maybe we be comin back, heh?

SNIPE WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS (BACARDI CUP & DUDLEY GAMBLIN MEMORIAL SERIES) WRAP-UP

The weather Gods were with us this year and the wind conditions were perfect throughout the four days of racing.

We had 19 boats participating, with eleven of them being foreign and coming from the USA, Canada, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Brazil. Eight Bahamian boats competed with two being sailed by junior teams while two other boats had junior crews.

This event drew some of the best Snipe sailors in the World. The big names were Ernesto Rodriguez (current US National Champion), Brian Bissell (from North Sails and overall winner last year), Augie Diaz (many times World Champion), and Alexandre Tinoco (one of the top Brazilians).
Ernesto Rodriguez with crew Meagan Place was unbeatable in the Bacardi Cup, winning all three races. Brian Bissell/Watt Duffy and Alexandre Tinoco/Lucas Diaz tied for second place in this series with the final being decided by tiebreak and resulting in the Tinoco team taking second and the Bissell team third.
In the Dudley Gamblin (5 race series) Ernesto and Meagan were pushed much harder as the main contenders (Bissell and Diaz teams) seemed to have found a bit more speed.  In the end only 3 1/4 points separated the first three boats. Ernesto and Meagan won, Augie Diaz and Kathleen Tocke were second and Brian and Watt third.
The top Bahamian boat was sailed by Jimmie Lowe and crew Cameron Symonette. They placed 6th overall. Robert Dunkley with crew Michelle Lakin were 7th, Lori Lowe with Shaquille Dean were 9th and Fernando de Cardenas with Danny de Cardenas were 10th. The award for the top junior team went to Christopher Sands with crew Michael Gibson.

Overall, everyone had a great time and enjoyed all the Bahamas has to offer. We are greatly appreciative of and wish to thank, all of the members who participated in helping with this event, especially those who opened their homes to our sailors and worked around the club and on the various committees.

DID YOU KNOW…that we have a few dock slips available and offer the best prices in town????  Yup, for a mere $0.30 per foot per day, you too can keep your vessel/row boat/inflatable vehicle of choice at the club.  Take advantage of this great offer and be at the beach before anyone else!

SNACK BAR…The staff and governing committee believe we can offer the same weekday menu downstairs along with the regular items you are familiar with at the snack bar, plus (be still my heart) a Weekend Special !!!!  Wow, wow, wow…..keep dis up and we be makin plenty money soon, soon

A final message……..Please, support your club!  The weekday lunches, Saturday’s boiled fish and conch salad, Sunday Brunch and our Special Events are all planned with our members’ pleasure in mind.  Make your committee feel great – participate!
